It seems teachers are valued very much in the same way everywhere

It's not true that everyone does the same. We should not generalise attitudes. That's stereotyping!
But reading this makes us feel not too isolated in the world, doesn't it?
Nevertheless, we must go on trying to change such views of our profession.
